Literature Text
A young, elegant woman ran through the forest as a gigantic dragon with golden scales and steel teeth lumbered behind her. The woman's elegant dress was being whittled away by the brush as she weaved in and out trees. She was beginning to slow down as scraps were torn from her beautiful gown. She was breathing heavily and her chest ached as the horrifying beast began to gain on her. It pushed the trees aside with it's massive claws. Soon the dragon was nearly on top of her. She looked over her shoulder to find that it was readying itself to strike. The dragon snapped it's metallic jaws at her. She would have died that moment if she hadn't leaped backward and caught a hold one of the dragon's horns.
The dragon's brief confusion allowed the woman to slide down the horn and straddle the dragon's neck. The now furious beast struggled out in vain to shake her off, going so far to slam it's own neck against trees. This did more damage to the trees and it's own neck in the process. Eventually the beast knocked enough scales off it's neck to create a weak point in it's natural armor across it's neck. The woman saw her chance. She ripped a slit down the side of the bottom of her dress, revealing one of her legs and the long, wicked blade strapped to it. The woman took her knife and slid it across the dragon's exposed neck flesh. Thick, silvery liquid poured forth from the beasts neck. The woman leaped off the dragon and watched as it staggered around until it collapsed onto the ground. The woman grinned at a monster well slain and followed the beast's trail back to it's cave. Not far inside she found an excessively large pile of treasure, which she proceeded to climb.
A young man in armor entered the cave to find a beautiful, young woman wearing a tattered gown sitting resting atop a pile of riches. She was flipping one of the many gold coins from the pile when she noticed the young man enter,
"Ah, Sir Teryin. It's been a while." she said as she gave him a warm smile.
"Not since the last dragon, I believe, Princess Arin."
"Did my parents send you to bring me back to the castle?"
"Yes they are quite worried about you."
"Aren't they always?"she asked as she slid down the pile of gold and jewels and gave him a devious grin. "Well, we better be off then, don't want them to worry too much."
"Why do you do this?"
"A princess's duty is to her people, and you are the only ones willing to fight a dragon any more."

"So where are you from?" The boy leans toward me, questions swimming in his eyes. I smile.
"Oh, I'm from Boston."
"No, I mean, where are you from?" My smile falters as I realize where this is going. It's an all-too familiar conversation, one I've been having since I was old enough to reply.
"Do you mean where was I born?"
"Yeah."
"I was born in China."
"Do you speak Chinese?"
"No."
"Does your family speak Chinese?"
"No."
He looks befuddled. I sigh.
"I'm adopted."
"Oh!" I see the light bulb over his head go off in a shower of sparks. "Do you know who your real parents are? Like, your real parents?" My temper flares. I stifle th

October Eyes
Such gentle colors drip across your freckled shoulder blades.
A quilt of puddled watercolors soaked in auburn shades.
Spun of golden rivulets and rinsed in autumn skies,
So many endless currents swimming through your lonesome eyes.
Brushing under fingertips and over shattered songs,
Unraveling like morning glaze against my paling palms.
With beauty like October hills and hollow as the skies,
The water drops against the earth will be our lullaby.
